Welcome to Lift Off 2022: Lift Off & Grow – the online induction event for Aberdeen City’s new senior pupils.
The focus for Lift Off 2022 is ‘Lift Off and Grow’. For this event local businesses and presenters have been asked to describe how their organisation has dealt, or plan to deal, with the challenges of Net Zero and Climate Change, but also the opportunities that these challenges provide in the NE of Scotland as Aberdeen positions itself as the Energy Capital of Europe. Each presenter will also discuss their personal views and decisions around Climate Change for themselves and their families.
The purpose of the event is to switch the Climate Change narrative from being a problem – which sadly it undoubtedly is – to an opportunity for growth. You will by the end of the two days be able to describe how each organisation you have listened to has portrayed the opportunities available in the future for your careers. You will also understand how you can personally change what you do to improve our climate.
On the Day 2 you will hear from Further and Higher Education providers detail how they are adapting and creating new courses to provide opportunities in Aberdeen. The focus will again be on the Climate Emergency and how there are so many potential opportunities for you in this area locally. You will also work through the government promoted Climate Accelerator course from Jump Digital, which provides you with SCQF Tariff points upon completion.
Hopefully you are looking forward to the range of speakers and options that are available to you over the two days. WHO KNOWS YOU MAY BE ONE OF THE LUCKY ONES TO SCOOP A £100 Aberdeen City voucher!
Just a reminder that this event is not compulsory but your attendance and engagement at the event will be monitored.
If you have any issues with getting into any of the live events, please email: liftoff@ab-ed.org This address is being monitored over the course of the two days and if there are issues please do not hesitate to get in touch via this address. Staff at BigMarker are also on-hand to help with any issues.
Cameras and mics are disabled for the event. However, you can interact with the speaker by using the Q&A function. This delivers your question to the moderator of the event who will be able to pass it to the speaker or panel to get answered, usually at the end of each session.
Aberdeen is a city of opportunity with new technologies, new industries and new jobs. We have key industries that are growing as a result of demand for new products and new services, such as health and social care, life sciences and energy, particularly renewables. These growth industries are supported with more routes into careers, including apprenticeships, college and university courses as well as other work-based pathways, including work experience and volunteering.
