My career journey has been a varied one, at school my favourite subject was Geography so after school I went to University to study Geology and Physical Geography.
Whilst a student I worked in a local pub and towards the end of my 4th year I realised I didn’t want to follow a career on Geography but instead chose a career in Hospitality. I spent 7 years in the hospitality industry in various bars and restaurants first as a Trainee Manager then Assistant Manager. As I got older I began to like the industry less and less as my friends and family all had regular Mon-Fri, 9-5 jobs where I was always working evenings and weekends.
I decided to make a change and completed an online career match quiz where I discovered the role of Careers Adviser. I returned to University to complete my PG Dip in Careers Advice and Development where I completed work experience placements at Skills Development Scotland and at a local 3rd sector organisation.
I loved my experience at the 3rd Sector organisation and was lucky enough to find they were hiring just as I completed my Diploma. I got the job and have been working in employability ever since. Here at shmu I started as an Employability Support Worker and 2 years ago moved up to manage the project shmuTRAIN.
