About This Webinar
Thank you for joining us for the first edition of our Future of Drinking series, Regions Reimagined, as part of Australian Wine CONNECT.

Australia has an incredibly vast landscape with 65 wine regions, all of which are extremely important to the Australian wine story – and creative, boundary pushing winemakers from lesser-known regions are stealing the spotlight with media and gaining traction with international trade.

Renowned Australian journalist and presenter, Mike Bennie, led a series of conversations with some of Australia’s innovative winemakers from unique regions far from the Australian coastline, discussing how producers are planting Mediterranean varieties to combat changing climatic conditions and simultaneously staying relevant to evolving consumer tastes.

    Brendan Carter
Chief Thinker, Winemaker, Distiller - Team Unico
Brendan studied Oenology and Viticulture and went on to work with iconic Australian wine producers such as S.C. Pannell, Jacob's Creek, G.D. Vajra and a raft of smaller producers in the Adelaide Hills. Eager to further his understanding of the Australian beverage industry, Brendan worked in wine bars and bottle shops in his free time, learning to talk about wine, and more importantly understand the trends and gaps in the market. With his partner Laura, Brendan founded Unico in 2012 out of a mutual love of the Australian landscape and a passion to push forward sustainable practices in the beverage industry that protected the future of the land and created new ways to use native botanical ingredients. 2012 was also the year Applewood distillery was founded, where Brendan and his partner Laura were able to add to their repertoire a unique selection of spirits that hero Australian native botanicals.

    Con-Greg Grigoriou
    Winemaker, Delinquente
Winemaker Con-Greg Grigoriou is a fourth-generation wine producer in South Australia’s vast Riverland wine region. He is shining a spotlight on an under-appreciated wine region with his boundary-pushing wines that don’t hold back on flavour. Con-Greg is big on authenticity and sustainability. He crafts vibrant, unique wines from Mediterranean varieties that thrive in the region’s warm climate. He’s proving that the Riverland isn’t just a producer of large volumes of grapes for popular and affordable wines – it’s also a sleeping giant where alternative varieties like Nero d’Avola and Negroamaro thrive in the warm sun and produce bright, lively, boisterous wines. Wines that upend expectations and change perceptions.
