A filing status is an election made every year on your return, based on a person's marital status and/or relationship to dependents each year. This program will start with the requirements for each status as laid out in USC and review each of the five statuses. We'll also go over how to get information from clients if they are being weird about it and review common issues that may came up. This program will kick off our Tax 101 series, designed for newer practitioners or those looking to review in preparation for EA or AFSP exams.
Objective:
1. To review the requirements of filing status elections
2. To discuss how to elect these statuses and sorts of questions to ask
3. To go over common snarls with status elections
4. To review the dependency requirements and how they affect status election
