Julie is the Co-Director of Cascadia's Oakland, CA office, serving in the role with fellow Co-Director Julia Chang Frank. She leads our Bay Area team's public sector zero waste planning and outreach efforts. Julie has over 15 years of zero waste experience, including eight years serving as the City Government Zero Waste Senior Coordinator at the San Francisco Department of Environment where she administered contracts and managed the resource recovery and waste prevention programs for the City's 30,000 employees and over 1,000 facilities.

Asami caught the recycling bug during her master's program in Sustainability Management at Columbia University. Since then, she has worked with Columbia University, a business improvement district in New York City, and numerous other businesses across the US to develop and implement waste diversion strategies.

Prior to returning to school, Asami had a 10-year career as an air quality, odor, and noise consultant and worked with a wide range of public- and private-sector clients.
When she's not home baking or cooking, Asami is out camping, hiking, biking, paddling, climbing, snowshoeing, or skiing.
