Bio
Sarah Furman has a BA from University of Michigan with a double major in mathematics and English and a Master’s in Curriculum and Teaching from Michigan State University. She is in her 23rd year of teaching at Inland Lakes High School where she has taught both disciplines. She is a Desmos Fellow (cohort 4) and she is a member of the Open Middle team, where she tests and edits content for openmiddle.com, a free mathematics resource for teachers. She has presented multiple times at state, regional, and district level conferences. She is a member of the Rosenthal Prize Institute in 2022 in collaboration with the National Mathematics Museum (momath.org). She has worked to build relationships with her students, and continues to implement the strategies outlined in Peter Liljedahl’s Building Thinking Classrooms in Mathematics in her classroom. She is also the varsity track and field and cross country coach at Inland Lakes.
