Dr. Sebastian Scholz is the Product Lead of the Energy Storage Underwriting Team within Munich Re Green Tech Solutions (MR GTS), which is part of Green Solutions. Together with a globally set up team of underwrites, entailing colleagues in the US, Japan, China, and India, MR GTS develops industrial insurance solutions that specifically address the long-term product and performance liabilities of large-scale battery energy storage systems (BESS). At the core of these technology-oriented risk transfer solutions is the aim to enable much broader financing for BESS, and at better terms, which is crucial for the energy transition. Before joining Munich Re, Sebastian worked for the World Bank Group in low carbon development and investment for cities and financing renewable energy, primarily in South America and the Caribbean. Sebastian holds a PhD in agricultural economics and is a Board Member of the German Energy Storage System Association (BVES). He is also active on the finance advisory board of the BVES.
