Robert read History at the London School of Economics before working in Her Majesty’s Courts and Tribunal Service as a Clerk to Her Majesty’s Judges for two years. He returned to his native Nottingham to complete the GDL and BPTC at Nottingham Law School. He was awarded a Distinction on the GDL and graded Outstanding on the BPTC.
Robert was awarded a BPTC Major Scholarship by the Inner Temple, the Taylor Prize for the Best Overall Performance on the BPTC, the Alastair Munt Memorial Advocacy Prize and The Inner Temple BPTC Prize.
Whilst undertaking the GDL and BPTC Robert volunteered in the Nottingham Law School Legal Advice Centre and for the Free Representation Unit. He gave advice on employment, housing and business structuring and tax matters, and successfully represented a client before the First-tier Tribunal (Social Security and Child Support). He was also an enthusiastic mooter, he finished runner-up in both the GDL Mooting Society’s and Ropewalk Chambers’ mooting competitions and was President of the GDL Mooting Society during his BPTC year.
Before commencing pupillage Robert worked as a County Court Advocate and then joined the Infected Blood Inquiry as a Paralegal. Whilst at the Inquiry he was made a Co-ordinating Paralegal on the Cover-Up and Lack of Candour Team.
Away from work Robert enjoys fencing and keeping fit, exploring the dustier reaches of a good wine merchant and poking about in antique shops.
