As Chief Economist for the Americas, Thomas is responsible for the Swiss Re Institute’s economic and insurance market research for the Americas. This includes the sigma studies — Swiss Re’s research series on the insurance industry.
Thomas and his team support Swiss Re’s strategic planning with analysis and forecasts of the macroeconomic environment and insurance and reinsurance markets in the Americas. Recent areas of research include de-risking global supply chains, resilience and protection gaps, innovation and insurability, the impact of inflation on insurance and liability claims drivers.
Thomas joined the Swiss Re Group in 1990 and has worked in Germany and Switzerland and the US. Prior experiences include marketing services, treaty underwriting, corporate development and competitor analysis.
Thomas graduated from the University of Munich with a M.S. and a Ph.D. in economics.
