Erica Smith is the managing editor for digital at the Times Union, in Albany, New York. She has worked in local news media for more than 20 years, joining the Times Union just as COVID-19 shutdowns began after working in print and digital media in Virginia, Missouri, Indiana and Washington. Erica’s also the first vice chair of the Local Media Foundation, and is a HearstLab Scout. She earned her master’s degree in entrepreneurial technology in 2018, the same year she was named Local Media Association’s Local Media Digital News Innovator of the Year.
