Bio
Ivy Saunyama works on the FAO Pest and Pesticide Management Team, Plant Production and Protection Division. She is based at the FAO Subregional Office for Southern Africa in Harare, Zimbabwe. Ivy is an Entomologist by training, holds an MSc in Crop Protection, Post Graduate Diploma in Pesticide Risk Management and a BSc Hons in Agriculture. She has 25 years' experience in the area of pest and pesticide management, with the main focus of her work being support to sound life cycle management of pesticide management, capacity building for implementation of chemical Conventions and CBD, pesticide regulation - including training on the FAO Pesticide Registration Toolkit and promotion of regional collaboration and harmonization of pesticide registration. In the past 10 years, Ivy has been working closely with pesticide regulators in Eastern and Southern Africa. Ivy has a keen interest in supporting countries to reduce risks from Highly Hazardous Pesticides (HHPs) and promote development and adoption of safer alternatives, including agroecosystem based practices (e.g., IPM), especially in smallholder production systems.
