The 20th anniversary edition of Shauna Singh Baldwin’s first novel, What the Body Remembers was released in 2020. This novel about two women in a polygamous marriage in occupied India received the Commonwealth Prize for Best Book (Canada-Caribbean region) and has been translated into fifteen languages. Her second novel, The Tiger Claw, the story of a Sufi Muslim secret agent searching for her beloved through occupied France, was a finalist for Canada's Giller Prize and optioned for film. The Selector of Souls, her third novel, received the Council for Wisconsin Writers fiction prize.
Shauna is the author of two cross-cultural story collections: We Are Not in Pakistan and English Lessons and Other Stories. She is co-author of A Foreign Visitor's Survival Guide to America. Her play, We Are So Different Now, in which Draupadi of the Mahabharat leads an over-privileged young woman to feminism, premiered in Toronto in 2016. Her Indian awards include a Nehru Award for public speaking and the Shastri Award for English Prose.
Shauna received an MBA from Marquette University, and an MFA from the University of British Columbia. She has served on several fiction juries including the Governor General’s Prize and the Giller Prize. Reluctant Rebellions: New and Selected Non-fiction was published in 2016.
