Major Michael J. Gund is the Deputy Chief of Strategic Design and Construction Division, Air Force Civil Engineer Center, Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, Texas. He leds a team of 133 engineer and architect professionals planning, programming, budgeting, designing, and executing more than 600 projects worth $3.1B. His efforts enable world-wide, large-scale operations and maintenance and design and construction agent efforts supporting the Air Force and other federal agencies such as Defense Logistics Agency, National Air and Space Agency and National Reconnaissance Office.

Prior to his current assignment, Major Gund was the Executive Officer to the Commander, Air Force Civil Engineer Center Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, Texas. He executed strategic guidance and vision from the commander supporting the National Defense Strategy initiatives executing $11.8B annually, managing $8B housing & $5B enhanced use lease portfolios. He was the Executive Liaison for over 2,000 personnel across 75 global locations; interfacing with 9 MAJCOMs, AFPC, HAF, SAF, OSD, and Congressional offices.

Major Gund was born in Anaheim, California. He entered the Air Force as an Airman Basic in October 2000 and commissioned as a Civil Engineer Officer in September 2011 through Officer Training School in Maxwell AFB, AL. He has been assigned to a variety of positions in garrison, Numbered Air Force, and Center Air Force levels. He has also served seven contingency tours in the CENTCOM/AFRICOM area of responsibility in support of Operations IRAQI FREEDOM, ENDURING FREEDOM, and INHERENT RESOLVE.
