Bio
Dr. Gibson is Technical Lead, Water and Environmental Impacts, InnoTech Alberta, and is a University of Victoria Research Professor. He is a specialist in isotope tracer techniques with extensive experience in regional, national and international water projects. Dr. Gibson is Past President of the International Commission on Tracers of the International Association of Hydrological Sciences, is founding member of the Canadian Geophysical Union – Committee on Isotopic Tracers, and has been employed to coordinate research programs on behalf of Environment Canada, the International Atomic Energy Agency, and the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organization. He has led or is co-investigator in numerous industry and government-funded environmental studies in the oil sands region including geochemical and isotopic investigations of surface/groundwater interaction at mining and SAGD sites, labelling and tracing of process-affected waters versus natural waters, water balance of lakes and wetlands, streamflow partitioning, sulfur and nitrogen cycling, and critical loads assessment. His broader interests include isotope mass balance of lakes, watershed source partitioning, and the continental-scale water balance.
