Fiona Young is a Senior Medical Scientist in the National Donor Screening Laboratory (NDSL) in the Irish Blood Transfusion Service (IBTS), Dublin, Ireland. She has a BSc in Biochemistry, MSc in Biomedical Science and has worked in different laboratories within the IBTS since 2003. Fiona is a Green Lab Ambassador and the lead scientist in the pilot NDSL My Green Lab certification project in the IBTS. This was the first collaborative project for the NDSL which encompasses three laboratories; automated donor grouping, virology and nucleic acid testing. Fiona is proud of the huge success in attaining ‘Green’ status in the certification process in December 2021, and in June 2022, NDSL was awarded ‘Sustainable Business Team of the Year’ at the inaugural PwC & Business Post Sustainable Business Awards.
