Professor Mike Parker is a retired Consultant General Surgeon with an impressive 43-year career in the NHS. He has made significant contributions to the field of laparoscopic colorectal surgery, having taught in Denmark and Sweden. Currently, Professor Parker is a Founder and Co-Director of Sirius Genesis Ltd, focusing on surgical innovation. He also serves as a Medical Adviser and Board Member of Love of the Game, an organization dedicated to reducing the impact of concussion injuries in sports and beyond.
Throughout his career, Professor Parker has held several prestigious positions, including Past President of the Association of Coloproctology of Great Britain & Ireland, the Association of Laparoscopic Surgeons of Great Britain & Ireland, the Surgical section of the Royal Society of Medicine, and the St Mark's Association. He served as a Council member of the Royal College of Surgeons of England for ten years, chairing the Dental and Surgical Examinations Board, the Fellowship, Election and Prize Committee, and the International Affairs Board. He also held the position of Caldecott guardian and was elected Vice-President in 2014.
Currently, Professor Parker is the Chairman of the Trustees of the European Society of Colo-proctology. He remains actively involved in training surgical skills and examining for RCSEngland both in the U.K. and overseas. Professor Parker has co-edited and authored two recently published textbooks on colorectal surgery, "Atlases of Lower Gastrointestinal Surgery," volumes one (laparoscopic) and two (open), which serve as practical guides for trainees and inexperienced surgeons to master various abdominal and pelvic procedures.
