Dan completed both his undergraduate and graduate degrees in English at Villanova University. Over the course of his 29-year career, he has taught a wide variety of high-school English courses at a number of different schools in and around his hometown, Chicago--the past 16 at Riverside-Brookfield High School. A National Board Certified Teacher and mentor since 2010, Dan is accustomed to working with teachers seeking professional development. Currently a Question Leader for the College Board’s AP English Language & Composition exam, and a Reader and Table Leader for the previous 17 years, Dan has gained valuable insights into assessing student writing. He also served on the College Board’s AP English Language Instructional Design Team and is an acknowledged contributor to the new Course and Exam Description and online resources launched this past school year. Dan’s academic work has been published by Bedford, Freeman and Worth in the Teacher’s Edition of The Language of Composition, 3rd Edition (2018). In addition, he presents regularly at state and national conferences, most recently the 2019 AP National Forum in DC and the 2016 AP Annual Conference in Anaheim.
