Bio
Roger Gilbert has been involved in the global milling industry for more than 30 years. He is publisher of International Aquafeed magazine and its Fish Farming Technology sister publication. He is a Fellow of the Royal Agricultural University in the UK.
Mr Gilbert’s career in aquaculture and agriculture journalism involved the co-founding of the International Feed Industry Federation and for 22 years was its Secretary General. He brought together the national feed associations to represent over 85 percent of all compound feeds produced globally. He was instrumental in persuading FAO to establish an expert working group on Protein Sources for the Animal Feed Industry, brought about IFIF’s NGO membership of Codex Alimentarius, established the annual International Feed Regulators Meeting (IFRM) with industry and was a driving force behind the development of the industry’s first global Feed Manual and the Federation’s Global Feed and Food Congress.
Mr Gilbert, a New Zealander, trained in journalism and graduated from Orange Coast College in California, USA in 1972 before returning to NZ to work for a national dairy farming magazine and later in the UK for Feed International as its European Editor and subsequently Editor.
His vision is of a more cost-effective protein supply chain and is convinced that aquaculture will go a long way to addressing the challenge of feeding nine billion people by 2050.
