Bio
Steve Jordan grew up in West Tennessee, graduated from Memphis State University (BA History) and Cornell University’s graduate program in Historic Preservation. Now semi-retired, he worked in the building trades as a preservation specialist repairing and restoring old and historic windows and still consults on window and preservation projects around the country. He was the rehab advisor for the Landmark Society of Western New York for six years, an architectural conservator for Bero Architecture for four years, and was a contributing editor for Old-House Journal from 1998 through 2015. Steve is author of Rehab Rochester: A Sensible Guide for Old-House Maintenance, Repair, and Rehabilitation (Landmark Society of Western New York, 1995); co-author of Expert paint: Painting Kitchens - How to Choose and Use the Right Paint . . . (Quarry Books, Gloucester, MA, 2004); The Window Sash Bible (KDP, second edition, 2024); Storm Windows: A Comprehensive Guide to Wood, Wood Combination, Aluminum, and Interior Storm Windows (KDP, 2021); Window Glazing: Puttying and Replacing Glass in Traditional Wood Windows (KDP, 2023); The Historic House Handbook (Landmark Society of Western New York, 2025). His next book, Like Waves Upon a Gentle Sea: Whirling Around the Mystique of the Sprung Dance Floor, will be released the summer of 2025. Steve travels extensively to teach restoration skills.
