Stuart started his career with The John Martin Group in Scotland whilst doing an automotive engineering qualification at the same time. He went into management straight away and at the age of 19 was given his first General Manager role in a small Nissan dealership. As the JM Group expanded Stuart became Operations Director and was jointly instrumental in securing a multitude of franchises – Vauxhall, Volvo, Suzuki, Toyota, BMW, Rolls-Royce, Bentley, Aston Martin, Lotus, Renault, Hyundai etc. After a period of 20 years with the Group he moved to Evans Halshaw which had yet to be taken over by Pendragon, and took on the role of heading up their Citroen, Fiat and Peugeot divisions. When Pendragon took over Evans Halshaw he became MD of their much expanded Ford Group including the joint venture with Ford Motor Company. Once again after a period of roughly 20 years, he was approached by Ford Motor Company to take on the position of Chairman and CEO of TrustFord which he has now held for almost 4 years.
TrustFord is a wholly owned subsidiary of Ford Motor Company and Stuart reports directly into Roelant De Waard VP of Ford Europe. TrustFord employs circa 3000 colleagues over 65 sites, has a turnover of £1.75bn and is the largest Ford dealer in the world. They sell over 100,000 vehicles a year and approximately 1 in 3 Ford CV’s in the UK come from TrustFord. They also embarked on the new PartsPlus business and today they account for roughly 2/3rds of Ford parts sales in the UK.
