Michael Mendoza was sentenced to adult prison at age 15, where he served 17 years before being paroled in 2014. He immediately began working on criminal justice reform, advocating for changes to the law and working as a case manager at the Center for Juvenile and Criminal Justice. He is now National Advocacy Director for the Anti-Recidivism Coalition. David Muhammad is executive director of the National Institute for Criminal Justice Reform and a Senior Advisor with the Columbia Justice Lab Probation and Parole Reform Project. Previously, he served as Chief Probation Officer of the Alameda County (California) Probation Department, as Deputy Commissioner of New York City’s Department of Probation.
