Nick Ellsmore is the founder of the Australian consulting firm Hivint, acquired by Trustwave in 2018.
Nick has a proven record of successful strategy development and execution in the information security industry. His previous companies, SIFT and Stratsec, grew to become the largest information security consulting firm in Australia, receiving awards including the national “Business of the Year” in the Telstra Business Awards 2010, and “Employer of the Year” at the AISA Awards multiple years, along with recognition in the BRW Fast 100 and the Australian Export Awards. Individually, Nick was the recipient of the inaugural “Information Security Professional of the Year” Award at the AISA Awards 2012.
Nick has served on industry boards and committees including the Internet Industry Association, the NATA AAC for Software Testing, Electronic Frontiers Australia and the UNSW School of Information Systems, Industry Advisory Board. He is a Graduate of the AICD Company Directors’ Course and past Australian delegate to the APEC TEL Security & Prosperity Steering Group.
As a consultant, Nick is a CISSP and has acted as IT Security Manager for multiple ASX-listed financial services companies. He developed the security strategy for one of Australia’s largest payment systems, redesigned the information security function for one of the country’s fastest growing banks, and has authored multiple intelligence reports for the Attorney-General’s Department’s Trusted Information Sharing Network (TISN).
He has been engaged by regional governments to review their national cyber-security strategies, and has delivered projects for APEC and the United Nations.
Nick personally delivered over 120 presentations at conferences and events since 2000, receiving the ‘best speaker’ award multiple times, and has been quoted and interviewed in media around the world over the course of his career.
