Kathryn Medien is a Lecturer in Sociology at The Open University. Her current research examines the development and use of internal border controls as a form of racialised governance in Britain. In examining how internal borders have been conceptualised and resisted, her work draws on feminist, anti-imperial and anti-colonial traditions of theorising. Alongside her current research, Kathryn sits on the advisory board of the Patients not Passports campaign ( https://patientsnotpassports.co.uk/ ), who call for an end to passport checks and migrant charges for healthcare within the NHS. Kathryn has published her research in journals such as The Sociological Review, Theory Culture & Society, Current Sociology, and the International Feminist Journal of Politics.
