Member of an old Greek Shipping Family. Father of two daughters, from his Panamanian wife, he retired as director of EMBIRICOS SHIPBROKERS Ltd.in 2013.
He studied Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering at Durham University and holds a Master's degree in Economics and Management from MIT.
He served as Intertanko vice President from 1992 to 1997
He served as BIMCO's President and Chairman of the Board of Directors from 2007 to 2009.
He served as Intetankos's Safety and technical committee from !990 tt 1994 and Bimcos Marine Committee from 2009 to 2013
He sits on the Advisory Board of the Panama Canal
He has participated in numerous conferences and study groups and has written many articles. During his time as Chairman of Intertanko's technical committee in the early 80s in addition to his attendance to IMO‟s meetings on safety and antipollution, Following the Exxon Valdez accident, He wrote a book, “The Quest for the Environmental Ship”, a study of tanker designs to reduce oil pollution. He also carried research with Lloyds Register and developed a test model of a system to minimize pollution during accidents. He produced a film on his experiments (Rescue Tanks) (Tankers). He has had extensive experience in Shipping International Maritime affairs through his positions in the Executive Committees of BIMCO (1999- Now) and Intertanko (1989-1997) where he was vice –Chairman from 1992-97).
More recently he wrote a book –“the Panama Canal and its Expansion”, a book
destined to the youth of Panama, that explains the rationale behind the construction of a third set of locks. This book has been translated in six other languages and can be down loaded from the BIMCO‟s website, He has written an extensive history of the Panama Canal: "A Bridge of Water over the Mountain" which will be launched by the Panama Canal after the end of the pandemic
