Richard has recently taken on the chairmanship of the Maritime Foundation, a British initiative that brings together experts from merchant shipping, ports and logistics, the Royal Navy, fishing, aquaculture and other stakeholders to raise the profile of the ocean industries and to work towards a more environmentally-friendly future.
Richard Clayton spent more than 30 years at Fairplay, where he served as editor of its market-leading Daily News bulletin and editor of the weekly magazine. In mid-2017 he joined Lloyd’s List as Chief correspondent. His role is to work with all sectors of the shipping industry to moderate thought-leadership Roundtable discussions, chair forums and conferences, create and host webinars, and write opinion and analytical pieces for Lloyd’s List Online and the monthly magazine, The Intelligence. He also leads Lloyd’s List’s awards evenings for the Americas and the Middle East. He is the son and grandson of shipbrokers in London and Hull, respectively.
