Title
Researcher at the Genetics Department at Fundación Jimenez Díaz University Hospital, Madrid, Spain.
Bio
My research interest focuses on the identification of the genetics basis of human diseases, with an emphasis on pediatric conditions, and the influence of genetics on drug responses.
I have a bachelor degree in Pharmacy (by the Complutense University of Madrid -Spain-) and I am a specialist in Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine (4 year-post graduate training at Puerta de Hierro University Hospital of Madrid -Spain-). I got my PhD in Genetics and Cellular Biology at the Genetics and Genomics Department at Fundación Jiménez Díaz University Hospital in 2011. My thesis dissertation versed on the pharmacogenetic underpinnings of risperidone response in patients with schizophrenia. After that, I did a postdoctoral fellowship from 2011 to 2015 in the Center for Applied Genomics at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, under the supervision of Dr. Hakon Hakonarson and became a research scientist at CAG on 2015. My work there focused on the identification of genetic susceptibility factors for common pediatric diseases such as asthma, atopic dermatitis or ADHD through genome-wide association studies leveraging the information contained at the large pediatric biorepository at CAG. In 2018, I came back to Spain, to the Genetics and Genomics Department at Fundación Jiménez Díaz University Hospital, with a highly competitive contract from the Spanish Government (Carlos III Health Institute). There, my research line is focused on the study of the genetic basis of neurodevelopmental disorders and the optimization of the diagnostic algorithms for those conditions.
As a result of my research career, I have authored more than 40 research articles that have over 3700 citations.
