J.J. JONES is currently an independent security consultant working for CRDF Global as a Border Security Advisor. From 2016-2019, he worked for the U.S. Department of State at the U.S. Embassy in Kyiv, Ukraine, as Chief of the Export Control and Related Border Security (EXBS) Program. Among JONES’ accomplishments during his tenure in Kyiv, he led the development of a comprehensive maritime security assistance plan targeted at countering Russian aggression on the Sea of Azov and the Black Sea.
JONES served in the U.S. Coast Guard for nearly 25 years and retired in 2008, rising through the ranks from Seaman (E3) to Commander (O5). Throughout his military career, he specialized in operations, including maritime border security and national defense serving at all levels within the Coast Guard from tactical teams to the National Command Center.
While on active duty, JONES earned a master’s degree in national security and strategic studies from the U.S. Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island, and a bachelor’s degree in applied science from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa.
