Kaitlyn Michalek is a 2L at Widener University Delaware Law School. She received her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Criminal Justice at West Chester University. Prior to entering law school, Kaitlyn worked for the Chester County District Attorney’s Office in West Chester, Pennsylvania. She is an active leader in the LGBTQ+ community in her personal life and on campus, where she serves as the OUTlaw Vice President. Kaitlyn is passionate about social justice work and hopes to pursue a legal career in advocacy and equity. She is interested in intersections of law, activism and civil disobedience. Kaitlyn believes we are at a pivotal moment in our society and that it is necessary for all of us to take a stand. She wants to integrate her social justice work with her passion for the law.
Kaitlyn first contributed to the NLG as a summer law clerk for the Delaware-New Jersey National Lawyers Guild working with the arrest hotline. She is now serving as a Senior Clerk for the Delaware-New Jersey National Lawyers Guild’s Legal Research, Writing and Publications Practice. In that role, she has drafted Open Public Records Act (OPRA) requests as part of an investigation into the conduct of officers of a New Jersey Police Department. She has also interviewed affected persons and worked with them to execute affidavits attesting to their experiences. Kaitlyn presented about her Practice Group’s work at a Continuing Legal Education Program at the 2020 NLG National Convention.
