John Petrich, MS, RPh, is the manager of the Investigational Drug Service for the Cleveland Clinic Health System. During his 20 year tenure, John’s team has supported a wide variety of clinical trials across an international landscape. John broadly assists investigators with protocol development and execution with a focus on rational drug utilization, regulatory compliance, quality improvement, and biosafety awareness throughout the enterprise.
With the emergence of gene therapies, John has helped champion the effort to enrich guidance’s around safe handling, site preparedness, and risk evaluation for hospitals and health-systems. His recent work has sought to provide much needed direction to site pharmacies on gene therapy management. In 2019, John authored a review in The Journal of Pharmacy Practice titled Gene Replacement Therapy: A Primer for the Health-system Pharmacist and he presented nationally on the topic of gene therapy. John is also a current member of the Gene Therapy Network Steering Committee.
John received his Pharmacy degree from the University of Toledo and his Master’s degree from Cleveland State University. He is a long standing contributor to the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP), and past president of the Society of Clinical Research Associates (SOCRA).
