Dr Roland Daw is a Senior Lecturer in Strategy and Entrepreneurship at St Mary’s University, Twickenham. He has been studying sustainability and decarbonisation in the voluntary sector since 2014. Roland has been the research lead on the Guardians of Creation Project since 2020, a multi-institutional programme investigating the technical, sociological, organisational, and theological paths to sustainable and ecologically sensitive change in the Catholic Church.
Roland’s talk will concentrate on decarbonising the parish as a built environment. He will give a straightforward overview of actions that parishes can take on their buildings, along with some heuristics for how to think about some of the more challenging aspects of decarbonising parish buildings. He will also draw on his peer-reviewed research, along with findings from his current case study work, to make recommendations on how to navigate the parish–diocese relationship when working towards more sustainable parishes.
