Judy’s understanding of the power of After Action Review AAR to transform the way in which people work together came when she was asked to join a team created to introduce the AAR approach to clinical teams at University College London Hospitals Foundation Trust (UCLH). Even in a top performing hospital trust such as this, there was a real need to improve communication and learning between all parts of the system and reduce the barriers caused by hierarchical structures and the fear of speaking out.
Judy led the team that delivered a ground breaking education programme to equip staff to lead AARs and earned her stripes as an AAR Conductor through facilitating many AARs for clinical incidents. Judy has since taken her expertise in AAR to many other organisations in the NHS, higher education and corporate businesses and has learnt a great deal about what makes for a successful integration of the approach into the culture.
