Barak is the founder and Chief Essay Mentor at EssayQuest, a company that provides personal mentoring and online guidance to high school students writing their college essays.
Since 2012, Barak has mentored over 500 individual students, led workshops for thousands of stakeholders, and worked with schools and nonprofits across the country to develop programs and train their staff. He speaks to standing-room-only audiences at major regional and national conferences.
Barak led the development of EssayQuest, a teen-tested, nothing-like-school program that turns the college essay experience from a chore to an adventure. Schools, nonprofits, private businesses, and independent educational consultants use EssayQuest in their programs.
Barak is a skilled storyteller and writer, a masterful guide of self-discovery and development, and an expert in transforming complex processes into simple and playful programs. He aims to help students craft memorable and authentic essays that communicate their identity and potential.
And, he’s a lot of fun!
Barak has a BA in English and History from Williams College and a Master of Public Policy degree from the University of Michigan. He lives outside of Seattle.
