Bio
Ellis Ross was born and raised in Kitamaat, BC. After serving as an elected Haisla Nation councillor for eight years, he was elected Chief Councillor in 2011, and was acclaimed in 2013 for another term. In 2017, he was elected to serve the constituents of Skeena in the Legislature as a BC Liberal MLA. He served as Minister of Natural Gas Development and Minister Responsible for Housing.

Ellis has worked for both private and public sectors. He operated his own business in partnership with his brothers through the lean 1990s.

In 2012, then-Premier Christy Clark appointed him as the inaugural Chair of the Aboriginal Business and Investment Council.

Ellis has been recognized as a business leader by both BC Business magazine and Canadian Business magazine. In 2014, he was the only First Nations leader among 25 Canadians invited by then-Finance Minister Jim Flaherty to a public policy and budget retreat.

In recognition of his community service, Ellis was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee medal in 2013 and the Order of BC in 2014.
