A fifth-generation Washingtonian, Governor Jay Inslee grew up in the Seattle area and entered public service in Yakima in 1985. He went on to become a state representative and was elected to Congress in 1993. In 2012, Jay was elected Washington’s 23rd governor. Through two terms as governor, Jay’s focus has been on building a brighter future for every Washingtonian. Jay has firmly established the state of Washington as the national leader in fighting climate change. He created the Clean Energy Fund, a model for economic development aligned with climate change goals, creating hundreds of jobs and setting unprecedented emissions standards, making Washington state the standard-bearer for the nation.
