Ken Wallentine is the Chief of Police for the City of West Jordan. He is the former Chief of Law Enforcement for the Utah Attorney General, having served nearly four decades in public safety. Chief Wallentine formerly served as Bureau Chief of the POST Investigations Bureau and as Administrative Counsel for Utah Department of Public Safety.
Chief Wallentine consults on use of force issues nationally and has served as an expert witness in numerous state and federal courts. A law enforcement officer since 1982, he has also been a practicing public attorney. As Senior Legal Advisor for Lexipol, he helped craft police operational policies for over 3,300 public safety agencies in the United States.
Utah Governor Gary Herbert selected Chief Wallentine for the Governor’s Leadership in Public Service award for his work in public safety leadership. Chief Wallentine has also been honored by the Utah Sheriffs Association as an Honorary Sheriff, and by the Utah Chiefs of Police Association for his public safety legislative affairs work. In 2017, Ken completed post-graduate studies to become one of a very select few to achieve certification as an Advanced Force Science Analyst®. He is the past-President of the American Inns of Court, Inn One.
Chief Wallentine is the editor of Xiphos, a national monthly newsletter updating officers on criminal procedure and liability developments, now in its 22nd year. His deskbook on criminal procedure, Street Legal: A Guide for Police, Prosecutors & Defenders, 2nd Edition, was published by the American Bar Association Publishing Company and is widely used in law schools and criminal justice programs. His most recent book, Preparing for an Active Shooter Threat, published by Blue360 Publishing in 2020.
Chief Wallentine comes from a line of sheriffs, deputy sheriffs, city police officers and deputy U.S. Marshals stretching back to 1869. He is the father of a deputy sheriff and a federal special agent. He can often be found riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle throughout the West.
