Aviation Planning and Zero Waste
The topics of waste and waste diversion are popular right now because of many environmental, financial, social, and logistical concerns. Airports are charged with the task of engaging many levels of stakeholders in their waste management plans. We will take a look at the various methods that can be used to increase stakeholder engagement and address the concerns for implementation of a successful waste diversion program. Another goal is to create a relationship between airports and their haulers that will incentivize both parties to address waste effectively. Some highlights of these strategies include communicating needs and opportunities with waste and recycling haulers, obtaining data to create a baseline for a robust program, providing education and making policies for internal staff, and evaluating infrastructure and collection tactics in order to increase participation from passengers and those responsible for collecting waste and recycling.
