Mike Howard started his career as a staff attorney for Legal Aid of NorthWest Texas before joining the Dallas County Public Defender's Office in 2005. Mike left the PD's office in 2009 to open the Law Office of Mike Howard, which focuses on representing people in the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex charged with state and federal criminal offenses. While Mike represents people charged with offenses ranging from class B misdemeanors to capital murder, most of his trial practice has focused on child abuse, sexual assault, family violence, and murder prosecutions.
Like many others, Mike believes that, more than any other phase of trial, a case is won or lost in jury selection. As a law student, Mike watched Lisa Blue conduct jury selection in a mesothelioma case. Her command over the courtroom and the jury panel that day opened his eyes to how powerful jury selection can be when done well. Mike has spent much of his career learning the art of jury selection from other great lawyers. Besides his law practice, Mike is an adjunct law professor at the SMU Dedman School of Law in Dallas, where he teaches a class on jury selection.
