Known as one of Canada’s most cited social scientists working on food and sustainability, Evan was a Canada Research Chair from 2010-2020. He has written over 50 op-eds for a range of publications including CNN and the Guardian as well as two popular non-fiction books on food security, one of which was nominated for the James Beard Food Literature Award and is currently working on a third. Additionally, Evan has co-authored over 100 academic papers and book chapters and co-produced/co-hosted three one-hour radio documentaries for CBC’s premier documentary show Ideas on the future of food. Currently, he sits on a number of boards including co-chair of the Canadian Food Policy Advisor Council and vice-chair of the Maple Leaf Centre for Action on Food Security.
