Bio
Professor Anton Middelberg is the Deputy Vice Chancellor designing, leading and oversighting the Innovation and Research portfolio at Adelaide University. He is presently helping lead the creation of Adelaide University through merger of the Universities of Adelaide and South Australia.
Anton is an elected Fellow of the Australian Academy of Technology and Engineering, the UK-based Institution of Chemical Engineers, and the US National Academy of Inventors. He earned his Bachelor and PhD degrees in Chemical and Biochemical Engineering from The University of Adelaide.
After a period as a Fulbright Fellow at UC Berkeley, Anton joined the University of Cambridge as a tenured academic with Fellowship of Selwyn College and the Cambridge-MIT Institute. In 2003 he was recruited back to Australia as a Federation Fellow of the Australian Research Council, and was then awarded the Queensland Premier’s Fellowship. During 2014-2017 he was the Pro Vice Chancellor (Research and International) and Acting Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research) at The University of Queensland. In 2017 Anton returned to The University of Adelaide as the Executive Dean of Engineering and then the Deputy Vice Chancellor and Vice-President for Research.
Anton is an internationally-recognised research and thought leader in the fields of advanced biomanufacturing, soft condensed matter and bio-nanotechnology. He is the author of more than 250 peer-reviewed journal articles in science, engineering and health that have been cited more than 10,000 times, and is the recipient of the Brodie and Shedden-Uhde Medals of Engineers Australia.
