Laurel Burton is a Healthy Settings Advisor with Northern Health’s Healthy Communities team where she supports Northeast BC communities to become healthier places to live. Previously, Laurel has supported food security work in a variety of geographical regions, and has worked with groups across the lifecycle, within BC and internationally, to support community and regional food systems development, for the aim of optimizing health. Her work is grounded in the structural determinants of health and their impact on overall well-being, both at the individual and population level. Laurel’s professional interests include healthy public policy, poverty reduction, food security, health equity, and social justice.
