John heads the Appellate and Supreme Court practice in Arnold & Porter's Washington, DC office. He has argued nine cases before the Supreme Court of the United States and appeared before most of the federal courts of appeals in cases across a broad cross-section of subjects. John is a Contributor to SCOTUSblog, writing the widely read Relist Watch column. He served as an Assistant to the US Solicitor General and Senior Deputy in the Office of Legal Counsel at the US Department of Justice (2005-2009) and clerked for Justice Anthony Kennedy (1996-1997).
