Brian Richart is a recently retired Chief Probation Officer with more than 30 years of leadership experience in community corrections across California. He most recently served as Chief Probation Officer for the County of El Dorado, appointed by the Superior Court in 2013. He also served as Chief of Staff for the Alameda County Probation Department and as Chief Probation Officer for Shasta County Probation Department.
Brian has been deeply engaged in statewide leadership and policy development. He served as President of Chief Probation Officers of California (CPOC) in 2020 and held multiple executive and committee leadership roles within the organization. He served six years on the Family and Juvenile Law Advisory Committee by appointment of the Chief Justice of the California Supreme Court and, in 2023, was appointed by the Governor to serve on the California Board of State and Community Corrections.
Throughout his career, Brian has contributed to national conversations through the American Probation and Parole Association and other professional forums, focusing on evidence-based practice, organizational leadership, justice reform, and the responsible integration of technology into community supervision.
As an advisor to Cognisen, Brian provides strategic guidance on product alignment, agency implementation, executive engagement, and ensuring AI-enabled solutions reflect the operational realities of probation departments. His leadership experience strengthens Cognisen’s mission to modernize community supervision while supporting officers, improving efficiency, and advancing public safety outcomes.
