Brandon Kitagawa
Title
Policy Associate at Public Health Institute
Bio
Brandon Kitagawa is a strong partner in the fight for equity. When he started eight years ago at Regional Asthma Management and Prevention (RAMP), a project of the Public Health Institute, Brandon Kitagawa’s drive was to further health equity.

“Even before coming to RAMP, I was drawn to work on issues that impact communities facing multiple challenges, such as inequitable access to affordable housing, quality schools, or health care, or that have disproportionate exposure to environmental pollutants.” Brandon was brought on board at RAMP to coordinate state policy work with the Community Action to Fight Asthma (CAFA) network and focus on housing and land use. Through his work, Brandon has become a key partner with many organizations around the state, including CPEHN.

A few years ago, an alignment of equity and health issues led to a formal partnership between CPEHN and RAMP, and the co-sponsorship of Senate Bill 488 (Hueso), which expanded authority to cite for pest infestation to local code enforcement officials.

When asked why he gives to CPEHN, Brandon said, “one of the advantages of working with other organizations is you can easily find the ones that stand out. Working with CPEHN and knowing the work that you do up close, from sponsoring a bill together to working in coalitions and having CPEHN serve on our advisory committee – it’s not a tough decision to give, as long as I am able.”
