I teach philosophy at MIT, working mainly in ethics, epistemology, and the philosophy of mind. I am the author of Practical Knowledge, Reasons without Rationalism, and Knowing Right From Wrong. My self-help book, Midlife: A Philosophical Guide, is available in bookstores and can be ordered online. It has been reviewed in the Economist, the Spectator, the LA Review of Books, the Wall Street Journal, the Guardian, and the New Yorker, and was a Times Higher Education Book of the Week. I have also written about baseball and philosophy, H. P. Lovecraft, stand-up comedy, and the meaning of life. I am currently working on a book about philosophy and adversity.
