Dr De Groote has a specialty in Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine, and has been the head of the inpatient Rehabilitation Department for 10 years in AZ Rivierenland, Belgium. He has a postgraduate in ‘Development Cooperation’ and ‘Rehabilitation Management in the Global South’. He has been working as a consultant for the development of rehabilitation guidelines at the Ministery of Health in Vietnam, and for the International Federation for Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus. He is the founder of CBR International. He has been a member of the CBR task force at the International Disability and Development Consortium and the chair of the ISPRM ‘Capacity building in low resource countries’ Working Group for several years. He has experience in the strategic planning and monitoring of rehabilitation service implementation, and has been involved in numerous trainings for rehabilitation professionals around the globe.
