High schooler, lived experience with mental illness
Bio
Jacob Horwitz is 16 years old, and a current 10th grader at Battle Ground Academy. He was born in Somers, New York, and moved to the Nashville area in 2016. He was diagnosed with Tourette Syndrome at 8 years old. In 2018, he was selected to go to Washington D.C. to represent Tennessee as an advocate for TS and train to become a TS Youth Ambassador. There, he met with lobbyists for both the New York and Tennessee representatives and senators. Upon his return, Jacob began presenting to students, educators, and the community as a whole, about Tourette Syndrome, what it is like living with tics, and what/what not might be helpful to someone with TS. Jacob’s interests and hobbies include hockey, trumpet and magic tricks. He is honored to be on the panel and share his experiences working with multiple mental health clinicians.
