With over 28 years of experience with geographic information systems (GIS), Ross has held many strategic positions within government geospatial offices. Starting as a GIS intern for the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, he worked his way up to become GIS supervisor before spending 14 years in leadership positions for the Minnesota Department of Transportation. Ross served as GIO for the State of Minnesota from 2013-2022, as well as Director of the Minnesota Geospatial Information Office and Ex Officio of the Minnesota Geospatial Advisory Council. Outside of Minnesota state service, Ross has held leadership positions within several national, state, and local GIS organizations. From 2018-2019, he served as president of the National States Geographic Information Council (NSGIC), and again in 2022 as Interim Executive Director. Ross also worked as the Chief Business Technology Officer for the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency, Board of Water and Soil Resources, and the Health Licensing Boards.
