Shawn Coughlan is an owner at Applied Control Engineering, Inc. (ACE)where he has been employed for the last sixteen years. He earned his Professional Engineering License early in his career and has continued his professional development within the controls industry by learning new systems and earning several certifications. His 37-year career has seen him involved in control system projects in the power, chemical, refinery and pharmaceutical industries. He has worked all levels of projects from programmer to project manager. His current responsibilities include Operations Manager for the Houston office and business development in the Power Sector. He has been a member of the Wilmington Section of the International Society of Automation, holding several leadership positions through the years and organizing the Wilmington Automation Show for the past eight years. He is also a member of the Mid-Atlantic Chapter of SWANA
His projects have included control system retrofits, executed in stages so as to minimize operational impact, specifying an installing new DCS/PLC control systems, and modifying existing facilities to expand and upgrade control systems. While at ACE, he has been part of growing the company from a 40-person firm to a 140-person firm.
He is a father of two adult children, a stepfather of a college son, and most recently a grandfather. His passions are endurance sports, triathlons, outdoor activities. His most recent adventures include running the Grand Canyon from Rim-to-Rim. He plans next to hike the Appalachian Trail.
