Bio
Genesis Polanco has 10 years of experience working with survivors of human trafficking, domestic violence, and sexual abuse. Currently, Genesis is the Director of Project Rescue at the Connecticut Institute for Refugees and Immigrants. Project Rescue offers and coordinates care for survivors of human trafficking, unaccompanied minors and foreign-born survivors of domestic violence and other crimes.

Genesis has dedicated the past 5 years supporting survivors of human trafficking providing direct services; coordinating care for survivors in collaboration with social, healthcare, housing legal and law enforcement partners; and educating providers and the general public on how to prevent, recognize and respond to human trafficking. In her current role, Genesis also oversees CIRI’s Unaccompanied Minors, Rapid Rehousing, and the Victims of Crime Act programs.

Before joining CIRI in 2019, Genesis worked as a Family Advocate for five years in the Greater New Haven area, assisting victims of domestic violence and sexual abuse as a liaison between the agency, family, and other community providers, ensuring the effective and appropriate delivery of services. Genesis holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Connecticut in Human Development and Family Studies, and Psychology.
