teacher and department chair
Peg Cagle is currently a mathematics teacher and department chair at Reseda High School in Los Angeles Unified School District. Peg began her working life as an architect, but switched careers in response to a critical shortage of STEM teachers. During her time spent teaching middle school Peg earned National Board Certification and was recognized as LA County Teacher of the Year, Raytheon Math Hero, member of USA-Today’s All-USA Teacher Team and recipient of the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics Teaching. Peg’s involvement beyond the classroom has including serving on the board of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, providing input to the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology, advising MfA/LA, and testifying before Congress. Peg stepped out of the classroom to serve as an Albert Einstein Distinguished Educator Fellow on Capitol Hill in the office of Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, working to bring the wisdom of practice to inform policy. Peg then spent three years as a practice faculty member in mathematics education at Vanderbilt University. Peg returned to the secondary classroom in August 2016. Since September 2018, she has served as co-director of the Park City Math Institute Teacher Leadership Program.
